Currently there is a movement to encourage more sacred music in the mass. The thinking is that much of our music during the mass, while inspiring and beautiful, may not really be very good for worshiping God. Such music might be great for various Catholic fellowship activities, just not for the purpose of seriously worshiping God in this most holy of events, the mass. Much of the less sacred music discussed is a bit more person centered than God centered. I see both sides of the argument, and rebelled at first at this new point of view. One thing good could come out of a change in mass music. Perhaps we Catholics will start having more great fellowship events like those of our Protestant brothers This video will explain the whole issue better than we can. Please note that the video is taking the position that only sacred music should be used in the mass.
